Recovery is part of the programme

Sleep beats gadgets

Most adults lifting weights feel and perform better closer to 7–9 hours. The exact number is personal; the trend is not. Ice baths, compression boots, and £8 orange powder do not replace a bedtime.

Practical: fixed wake time, caffeine cutoff early afternoon if you are sensitive, bedroom dark enough. Boring on purpose.

Rest days are not laziness

A rest day can include walking. It should not include a “quick chest session” that wrecks tomorrow’s press. Soreness (DOMS) 24–48 hours after new work is common in week one. Sharp joint pain is not DOMS.

Deloads

Every 6–10 hard weeks, or when sleep and mood fall apart: cut volume or load ~10–40% for a week. 5×5 has a simple version: take 10% off a stalled lift. You will not lose your identity.

Food and recovery

Low protein plus a steep deficit plus extra HIIT is how people “can’t recover.” Fix intake before buying magnesium spray. Budget meals are enough.

Stress you cannot see on a Fitbit

Shift work, new baby, exam season: drop to two quality sessions. A small home session is still training. Missing a week is cheaper than pushing into tendinopathy.

What we do not sell you

We will not tell you that a particular brand of sauna blanket is mandatory. If your gym has a sauna and you like it, enjoy it. If not, sleep.
